NEC Unleashes Mini HYDRAstor

NEC Corporation of America signaled its intent to compete more aggressively in the storage space with a lower-end version of its HYDRAstor data storage products for backup and archiving.

The HYDRAstor HS3-210 leverages the same inline data deduplication capabilities as the company’s high end offering to reduce storage capacity at a time when most midmarket IT organizations are struggling to keep pace with rapidly growing amounts of data.

According to Gideon Senderov, NEC director of product management and technical marketing, the new addition to the NEC lineup comes in a 2u box aimed at organizations that need to effectively store 1 to 10 TB of storage. Like the rest of the HYDRAstor line, data is dynamically allocated space within the HYDRAstor system, thereby eliminating the need to have storage managers allocate specific amounts of available storage to each application accessing the system.

With this new edition, NEC is also adding new snapshot functionality across the entire line of HYDRAstor storage products.

Pricing for the HYDRAstor HS3-210, which will be available later this month, ranges from $40,000 to $90,000.
