Rather than requiring IT organizations to acquire specialized hardware to support certain programming models, Netezza is letting programmers work in Hadoop, MapReduce, Java, Fortran, Python, C++, Java or proprietary models such as the developed by SAS institute.
The opening of the TwinFin appliance fulfills an N-Sight commitment that Netezza made last fall. According to Phil Francisco, vice president of product management and product marketing, the platform's ability to support multiple programming models of analytics is derived from technology and expertise that Netezza acquired when it purchased NuTech Solutions in 2008.
Other partners of Netezza that are expected to leverage these new embedded capabilities of the TwinFin appliance include Tibco Spotfire, MicroStrategy, Pursway, DemandTec and QuantiSense.
