NetScout Embeds Virtual Probe into Cisco Routers

NetScout Systems has taken advantage of Cisco Application Extension Platform middleware to create a virtual implementation of its network monitoring software that can be embedded directly into a Cisco router.

As a virtual implementation of the company’s nGenius Probe technology, the NetScout nGenius Integrated Agentcan be embedded directly in a Cisco integrated services router (ISR), said Steve Shalita, vice president of marketing for NetScout Systems.

By embedding probe technology directly into the router, Shalita says IT organizations will gain greater end-to-end visibility across not only an entire network of Cisco routers, but also server and storage systems that are tied via other NetScout management tools. That capability will make it easier for network management teams to collaborate, while also serving to ultimately reduce the number of network management tools those teams would require, said Shalita.

Shalita said NetScout is investigating taking the same approach with other open network infrastructure platforms, but at this time has no plans to support any other network platforms beyond Cisco.
