Nimbus Brings Apple iPhone to Work

As more people become dependent on their smartphones for accessing information, finding ways to incorporate these devices into the everyday workflow of the business is going to become a higher priority.

Nimbus has increased the reach of its Nimbus Control workflow management software to encompass the Apple iPhone as part of a series of efforts that will be extended out to other smartphone platforms, said Nimbus CEO Ian Gotts

Nimbus provides software that allows customers to capture and document a workflow process. By allowing users of smartphones to access that information, Gotts said Nimbus is helping companies bring remote workers up to speed on processes that they previously could say they were unaware of either deliberately or inadvertently.

Gotts added that it makes the information that makes up a particular process more accessible to people that are inclined to look something up using a familiar user interface.

Gotts concedes that smartphones are now a major IT challenge because business people are demanding that devices of all types and sizes must be connected to corporate applications. That not only creates cross-platform application development challenges; it also raises a variety of security issues.

That said, Gotts also notes that most IT organizations are not in a position to tell end users they can’t use a certain device, so they should expect to see application vendors adding support for these devices in droves.
