OK Labs Secures Google Android Devices

Open Kernal Labs (OK Labs) wants to give IT organizations control over smartphone security.

At the Mobile World Congress 2011 conference today, the company rolled out its SecureIT Mobile Enterprise for Google Android devices and other open mobile computing devices.

OK Labs CEO Steve Subar says SecureIT Mobile Enterprise is based on the microvisor virtual machine technology that OK Labs originally developed for device makers. This implementation, however, allows IT organizations to directly install a virtual machine of Android smartphones and tablet PC devices.

This approach allows IT organizations to create a virtual sandbox on these devices for running enterprise applications without having to intrude on the personal application space of the end user, said Subar.

As end users increasingly bring personal devices into the workplace, Subar says SecureIT Mobile Enterprise gives IT organizations a way to make sure that corporate applications can securely run on top of a virtual machine specifically developed by OK Labs for these devices.
