OpenERP Takes a More Modular Approach

OpenERP unveiled a release candidate for its namesake open source suite of ERP application software that allows customers to deploy subsets of the suite in a modular fashion.

In addition, it adds a new user interface developed using the Python programming language. According to OpenERP COO Marc Laporte, the new user interface is designed to make OpenERP applications as simple to navigate as Web applications that are developed in Python.

According to Laporte, version 6 extends OpenERP’s ongoing efforts to make ERP software more accessible to a broader number of customers not only in terms of cost, but also accessibility.

While ERP applications have lots of potential business value, Laporte notes that commercial ERP offerings are overly complex to deploy. With OpenERP 6.0, Laporte says customers can mix and match any application in the suite, and decide what application modules make the most sense for them given the current state of their business.

OpenERP 6.0 also includes new extended search facilities.
