Adds higher end NAS and tape library systems to midrange offerings.
In response to the growing data storage requirements of its traditional small-to-medium business customers, Overland Storage today rolled out a new enterprise-class storage server and a tape library system.
According to Drew O’Brien, Overland Storage product marketing manager for NAS products, the new SnapServer N2000 system combines a network attached server (NAS) platform with an iSCSI storage area network (SAN) capability to give customers a unified storage platform.
As Overland Storage customers struggle to keep pace with expanding data storage requirements, O'Brien said they are increasingly asking for higher end systems. At the same time, however, the lower end of the enterprise is becoming more cost conscious, and as a result is more willing to consider Overland Storage offerings.
For example, the SnapServer N2000 system, which can be configured with up to 144 terabytes of data, is priced starting at $4,999 for 4 terabytes of storage.
Meanwhile, Overland Storage is also taking advantage of LTO-5 tape technology to deliver a tape library capable of storing up to three petabytes of data.
Peri Grove, director of marketing for tape products for Overland Storage, said that while more IT organizations are embracing disk-based backup, they still require tape systems to archive data that is rarely accessed. The new challenge these organizations face, she said, is to figure out what data to store on a disk-based system where it can be easily accessed, versus storing archived data on more cost-effective tape library systems.
Pricing for the Neo 8000e starts at $47,999.
