Platform Computing Makes HPC Applications Accessible

Platform Computing, a provider of cluster, grid and cloud management software, released a new solution today designed to ease the enterprise management of high performance computing (HPC) applications. Called the Platform Application Center, it enables HPC end users to easily submit and manage various HPC applications through a Web-based portal interface.

Using Platform Application Center, administrators can customize and publish HPC software as a service (SaaS) for end users through a self-service portal. Application interfaces for popular HPC applications are included out-of-the-box, along with a customizable Web-based GUI template for administrators to create additional application interfaces for new HPC applications. It also provides the ability to manage jobs and application data as an alternative to using command-line syntax.

HPC end users can manage both jobs and data from any device using a browser. The GUI-based template should allow for new application Web interfaces to be added easily without writing any code. Services and support will more easily flow from administrators to HPC end users, who in turn will be able to perform their tasks more productively.

HPC applications, which rely on supercomputers and computer clusters to solve advanced computation problems, are generally used for sophisticated research activities. But even experienced IT professionals are growing less patient with any piece of enterprise technology that is not easily accessible. Platform Computing is trying to address that issues by using Web portal and SaaS technology to bring HPC applications in from the outer limits of the enterprise.
