Precise Pinpoints SAP Performance Issues

Precise expects to bring some precision to SAP software environments with the next release of its transaction performance management software.

Version 8.7 of Precise adds support not only for the full range of SAP software modules, but also lets application managers track performance all the way from a specific end user to the storage arrays used by the application in the data center.

According to Ed Colonna, vice president of marketing, SAP sites have access to a variety of transaction monitoring tools from SAP, but none of them provide the scope or depth of detail available in version 8.7. Colonna added that tools from SAP generally don’t provide any historical context related to how a new problem might actually be the just a recurring instance of a known problem.

Version 8.7 of company’s namesake software integrates with SAP’s Solution Manager, provides automated root cause analysis capabilities and helps IT organizations identify how to best tier storage in EMC environments.

That latter capability, said Colonna, is critical for SAP customers looking to reduce costs by moving non-essential data to lower-cost storage devices while keeping the most performance-sensitive data on more expensive storage arrays with the fastest I/O throughput.
