Q1 Labs Tools Identifies Security Risks

Under the heading of things that are much easier said than done, what most IT organizations need when it comes to security is a tool that automatically identifies issues before they become a problem.

Q1 Labs is trying to provide just that with the release of a QRadar Risk Manager tool that integrates security information derived from a variety of sources under a common management framework.

According to Q1 Labs product manager Brian Mehlman, the problem with most security management tools is that they address only management issues after the breach has happened. QRadar Risk Manager is designed to correlate all the information that resides in security information event management (SIEM) tools, system log file and third-party risk management applications in order to better model the IT organizations overall risk portfolio before a potential attack occurs.

QRadar Risk Manager automates the audit of firewall and other network infrastructure configuration settings and then presents information under a common user interface. That information can then also be used to run some predictive analytics software that assesses the security risks facing the IT overall IT organization. IT organizations can also use that information to inform policy engine module that is included with QRadar Risk Manager.

In addition, QRadar Risk Manager comes with a set of compliance libraries that guide IT organizations though how to meet the requirements of over 100 different mandates.

While there is no shortage of security management tools, Mehlman says that QRadar Risk Manager for the first time brings disparate security management functions under a common management framework that is also easy to deploy and manage.

Pricing for QRadar Risk Manager starts at $30,000.
