Queplix today is rolling out a new virtual approach to managing data that promises to give IT organizations maximum flexibility over how data is used, regardless of the application in which it resides.
The Queplix Virtual Data Manager (QVDM) is a layer of software that creates metadata that keeps track of every piece of data in the enterprise. According to Queplix CEO Mark Cashman, Queplix creates a “software blade” that keeps track of all the data in any application, facilitating integration of data across multiple sets of applications.
IT organizations can then use the Queplix metadata server to first analyze data in applications, then make sure the data in those applications is harmonized. This will eliminate issues related to conflicting sets of data in different applications that prevent businesses from being able to understand the total business relationship with any customer or entity.

In addition, Cashman said QVDM will eliminate the need to invest in data quality tools, as the Queplix metadata server will effectively ensure the quality of data on an ongoing basis.
Once the data has been harmonized, IT organizations can then share data across multiple applications, which in many cases will eliminate the need for expensive enterprise application middleware, said Cashman.
The Queplix metadata server will also make it easier to decommission applications, because a record of the data stored in an obsolete application can now be stored in QVDM, said Cashman. This will help many IT organizations overcome the challenges associated with retiring a legacy application.
QVDM can work with applications deployed on-premise and in the cloud to give customers an approach to integrating applications on disparate architectures, added Cashman.
