Racemi Automates Server Image Migrations

One of the biggest challenges with embracing any public cloud computing service is porting the images of the enterprise server environment to the new cloud computing service.

Racemi today announced a set of tools for automating that process in a way that allows either virtual or physical server images to be moved to the cloud and back again.

According to Racemi CEO Lawrence Guillory, enterprise IT organizations are not going to fully embrace the cloud until they can easily move their server images to a cloud computing service. They may let a couple of developers use cloud computing services, but they are not going to change the bulk of their production server images just to make them compatible with a cloud computing service.

Guillory says Racemi has automated this process by capturing the entire “personality” of a server image right down to the operating systems, applications, networking and storage configuration.

The Racemi tools also allow IT organization to convert virtual machine formats to facilitate migrations to new hypervisors, or can be used to convert an image from a physical server to run on servers from another vendor.

Given the scale involved in cloud computing, Guillory says it will be critical for IT organizations to find tools to automate the migration process to the cloud.

The Racemi tools are going to be made available via a variety of cloud computing providers and third-party software vendors.
