Rainstor Releases Version 4 of Data Repository Software

Rainstor, a provider of a data repository framework capable of supporting massive amounts of historical data, today released version 4.0 of the company’s namesake software.

According to Ramon Chen, vice president of product management, the latest version of the company’s software allows end customers to delete individual records according to specific expiration dates, legal requirements or business rules.

The new version also adds the ability to ingest data 50 percent faster than before, while also adding support for SQL queries and a wide range of other tools associated with business intelligence applications.

Rainstor, which is available only via Rainstor partners such as Informatica, is targeting companies that need to access near-line storage of large data sets that are too big for most databases, but still need to be accessed more frequently than other archival solutions could support.

That capability, said Chen, is especially useful for companies that want to retire enterprise applications, but still need to make the information in those applications available to end users. In addition, Rainstor also makes it easier to tier data storage according to its relevance and value to the business without sacrificing access to that information, he said.
