Replay Records Applications via the Cloud

The ReplayDirector, a tool that records how applications are being affected by anomalies and other events, is moving to the cloud.

Replay Solutions today announced that with the release of version 3.0 of the ReplayDirector, the ability to record applications in the same way as a digital video recorder is now available as a service.

Replay’s software provides a relatively simple way to track bugs and other application anomalies that are usually difficult to replicate. The new version also adds a tagging capability that highlights unusual application events that deserve additional scrutiny, said company CEO Jonathan Lindo.

While Lindo acknowledges there are other tools for recording applications, those tools are not meant to be used on a continuous basis. The concept behind ReplayDirector was originally developed for complex gaming applications that needed to be reviewed constantly before being shipped to consumers. As such, the ReplayDirector only keeps track of the way data actually changes in application, versus trying to store multiple versions of the entire application. That also means that developers can actually debug the application while running it on ReplayDirector, he said.

By moving the system to the cloud, Lindo said he expects that more IT organizations will want to take advantage of the service during the application development process.
