Replay Solutions Amplifies Log Data

Looking through system logs for specific event information is roughly equivalent to looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. And even once you find that information, it’s hard to make sense of it.

Replay Solutions wants to help solve the latter problem with a new Log Amplifier tool that has been added to version 3.1 of the company’s Replay Director software.

Replay Director is a tool that IT organizations can use to record application events and view them at a later date to see exactly how and application behaved. Log Amplifier takes that concept a level deeper by allowing IT organizations to view application behavior associated with specific system logs.

According to Replay Solutions CEO Jonathan Lindo, Replay Director works by installing an agent on an application server that tracks what is taking place and feeds that information to an appliance running the company’s software or a cloud computing service provided by Replay Solutions. The Replay offering, says Lindo, includes both an alerting mechanism to track specific types of events and a search facility that essentially allows IT organizations to engage in defect searching to identify all known instances of a particular issue.

Most importantly, IT organizations can replay applications even when the initial log information wasn’t captured, said Lindo.

In the future, Lindo says Replay intends to make available an application programming interface that will make data gathered by LogAmplifier available to security information event management (SIEM) tools and longer-term plans for integrating LogAmplifier with compliance applications.
