RFID Readers Set to Go Vertical

A new MC3090-Z reader is the first handheld RFID device designed specifically to meet the needs of the retail industry.

According to Motorola senior marketing manager Chris Warner, Motorola plans to make a series of RFID readers that will be designed to meet the specific requirement of various vertical industries, as opposed to marketing a single class of RFID readers to all customers.

The MC3090-Z is a lightweight, “gun-style” reader that was specifically designed to be used with one hand and comes with Motorola’s omni-directional antennae technology to make it easy to use in almosy any position, said Warner

The MC3090-Z series is compatible with Microsoft Biz Talk Server 2006 R2 and supports applications written with Microsoft.NET 2.0-based APIs. The MC3090-Z offers security options supported by 802.11a, b and g wireless networking standards.

The new Motorola RFID reader will be available in the first quarter of 2010.
