RightScale virtualization management software is designed to allow customers to manage virtual machines running on public clouds or within their own private cloud computing deployments. But up until now, RightScale could only manage the virtual machine images made available by a specific cloud computing provider, such as Amazon. This new capability makes it possible to manage custom virtual machine images running on public cloud computing services.
RightScale CEO Michael Crandell said the RightScale service assumes that most IT organizations are going to need to access a common management framework for managing virtual machines that are deployed across a range of public and private cloud computing platforms. In fact, a recent survey highlights the fact that in many cases a lack of virtualization management tools is what’s holding back many IT organizations from deploying the next generation of virtual machine software.
Once deployed on a cloud computing platform, open source RightLink agent software is attached to the virtual machine image to allow that image to be managed by the RightScale service.
