RightScale Reaches Out to Private Clouds

RightScale has launched a gateway through which it expects to help IT organizations bridge the worlds of public and private cloud computing.

The RightScale Private Cloud Early Access Program provides a mechanism through which the RightScale service for managing public cloud computing deployments can now be applied to private clouds.

Initially, the service will support private cloud deployments based on private cloud platforms from Eucalyptus and Cloud.com. But over time, RightScale CEO Michael Crandell says the service will be extended to a range of private cloud computing deployments.

Crandell says he expects to see cloud computing evolve into a series of services that are federated across public and private infrastructure.  As that model evolves, Crandell says IT organizations will need to rethink their management approach to IT by focusing more on “clusters of applications and related software” than the underlying IT infrastructure.

Separately, RightScale has also made available an ROI calculator to help customers analyze the total cost of cloud computing in various deployment scenarios.
