Version 6.1 of the company’s RiOS software adds specific functionality for optimizing Microsoft Exchange 2010 and SharePoint 2010 traffic and Lotus Notes and Domino traffic.
In addition, Riverbed has enhanced its support for specific protocols associated with a variety of EMC and Hitachi storage arrays and network protocols from Cisco and Brocade.
According to Joe Ghory, Riverbed senior product marketing manager, the enhancements stem from Riverbed’s hands-on experience working with these applications and devices over the last couple years. The end result of that effort, for example, is a 30-to-one improvement in the performance of disaster recovery operations across a WAN.
Riverbed is also upgrading its Central Management Console. Version 6.0 of that tool now makes it possible to manage as many as 2,000 Steelhead appliances while also managing specific application packages more granularly.
