Riverbed Monitors Real-Time Application Performance

One of the core arguments for deploying application acceleration appliances has been the need to improve performance. But the adoption of these appliances presupposes that customers are aware they have an application performance problem.

Riverbed Technology today will try to help customers become more aware of their application performance shortcomings with the release of a set of Cascade appliances that are based on the technology Riverbed gained when it acquired Mazu Networks last year.

According to Apruva Dave, Riverbed vice president of product marketing, the Cascade appliances are integrated with the Steelhead WAN optimization appliances from Riverbed so customers can continuously see what is happening with specific applications in real time. This in turns helps the customer create application behavioral analysis profiles on their network, which ideally would be used to help justify the acquisitions of application acceleration appliances if required, he said.

Dave added that the ability to analyze application performance is particularly acute these days in the wake of multiple data center consolidations and the rise of virtualization.
