According to Joydeep Das, director of product management for data warehousing and analytics at Sybase, the new reference architecture is intended to greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to deploy Sybase software on HP servers and may serve as a precursor of future things to come between the two companies. HP is still smarting from Oracle’s decision to replace HP hardware with servers from Sun Microsystems that is used in a data warehouse appliance following Oracle’s acquisition on Sun.
Das says that Sybase’s IQ software is fundamentally different from other data analytics offerings in that it is designed around a column architecture versus using rows that are typically associated with transaction processing applications. Analytic applications usually need to compare and contrast items so Das says Sybase feels it has a superior approach to supporting analytic applications than rival offerings.
The reference architecture is based on HP ProLiant 785 servers.
