The provider of e-mail management systems is launching a new Sentrion Application Store through which customers can acquire applications that are certified to be tightly integrated with Sendmail.
According to Sendmail executive vice president and chief operating officer Glen Vondrick, Sendmail appliances attached directly to the Internet, as opposed to each e-mail server running Microsoft Exchange, are inherently a more efficient place to run these and other filtering type applications that can all leverage a common Sendmail policy engine.
For example, that common policy engine could be leveraged by a data loss prevention (DLP) application that would provide a central place to meet compliance requirements.
Vondrick admits that like a lot of companies, Sendmail is borrowing the online store idea of a store from Apple. But the company has already put in place a Milter.org site to encourage developers to build applications for Sendmail appliances, many of which are available via the Sentrion store today.
