Sentrigo Adds Database Scanner

With more cybercriminals targeting specific types of data, the need to secure databases continues to grow in importance. To help identify databases that have been compromised, Sentrigo today added a vulnerability assessment tool with the release of version 4.0 of the Hedgehog monitoring software.

While previously Sentrigo provided a tool with which IT organizations could monitor databases from multiple vendors, the 4.0 release now includes scanning software to identify security issues in existing databases.

There may be a plethora of security vulnerability tools available, said Andy Feit, vice president of marketing for Sentrigo, but very few are specifically tuned to identify database security issues. The challenge, said Feit, is that IT organizations need to specifically secure information in databases versus relying on securing their network perimeters.

HedgeHog DBscanner, for example, conducts more than 3,000 checks of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and IBM DB2 databases, said Feit.

In addition to adding the HedgeHog DBscanner tool, Sentrigo in this release has added tighter integration with the ePO security management dashboard to make it easier for security administrators to manage database security alongside endpoint and network perimeter security.

Sentrigo does have great products to meet the needs of securing database servers. Still I find that most of the database security products will not suite small to medium business which cannot invest in expensive software. GreenSQL is another example of a database security product that meet this market.
