Repscan 3.0 also adds the ability to discover databases on the network, new tools that make it easier to navigate the reports generated by Repscan, enhanced penetration tests, and a database browser.
Designed to be used in conjunction with Sentrigo’s Hedgehog database activity monitoring software, the Sentrigo software is touted as being one of the few sources of vulnerability tests specifically designed for databases.

According to Andy Feit, Sentrigo vice president of marketing, the security issues surrounding Oracle and Microsoft databases are markedly different. Oracle databases have a bigger footprint, more security patches and tend to have lots of data. SQL Server databases, in contrast, tend to run departmental applications and as such are not yet as heavily targeted by hackers.
Both database environments need to be secured, but the level of priority that one IT organization places on one database or the other will be determined by their own individual company priorities, he said.
