Rather than seeking to manage one approach to application development, the Serena Orchestrated Application Lifecycle Management Solution provides a framework for managing multiple application development methodologies.
According to David Hurwitz, Serena senior vice president of marketing, IT organizations are increasingly challenged by managing the processes around various agile and waterfall application development methodologies. Increasingly, IT organizations are also being asked to manage projects that combine various methodologies, he added.
At the same time, while new agile development methodologies are being introduced in the development process, the operations side of the organization that has to manage the deployment of these applications has not evolved to cope with rapid updates to application environments.
Hurwitz says the latest ALM offering from Serena was specifically designed to give IT organizations a federated model for managing the development of multiple, diverse application development projects that serves all the stakeholders in the process.

In addition, Serena is also unveiling a Release Management Solution to help IT organizations more effectively manage the application release process and announced a partnership with Nolio under which Serena will incorporate automated release management software from Nolio into its portfolio.
