Silver Peak has moved to address this challenge with a new release of the software that drives its wide area network (WAN) optimization virtual appliance that adds support for Hyper-V.
The Silver Peak VRX-8, which installs on top of VMware ESX virtual server, is 20 times faster than any other virtual appliance on the market, said Larry Cormier, Silver Peak senior vice president of worldwide marketing. That level of performance is critical, said Cormier, because as virtual machines proliferate across the enterprise, the applications that run on them are becoming more latency-sensitive on the network.
Cormier said the Silver Peak approach also differs from rival WAN optimization offerings by including the ability to deduplicate data in memory, which reduces the amount of data that needs to be moved across a wide area connection. With the new release, that data deduplication process is now 50 percent faster.
As more IT organizations begin to shift more application workloads to the cloud, Cormier said it’s important to reduce the actual amount of data travelling across the network to not only improve application performance, but also reduce the costs of data transfers across the network.
Pricing for the Silver Peak VRX-8 starts at $69,995.
