Designed to make it easier for a group of IT professionals to collaboratively manage systems resources in the cloud, the new Skytap management tools include an ability for a team to manage a specific IT project, the ability to manage servers based on the role of the individual, and the ability to assign security polices to various resources.
In addition, Skytap has added a Skytap Resource Link that allows an IT staff to assign groups of machines to a single URL that makes it easier for members of the IT staff to access those servers from any browser running on any machine.
As cloud computing services become a commodity, Skytap is trying to differentiate itself by allowing IT organizations to manage resources in the cloud in the same way they would manage local resources. To that end, Skytap includes support for an IPSec VPN tunnel and the ability to export and import virtual images that allows IT organizations to create a hybrid model of enterprise computing the integrates cloud computing and on premise computing resources.
As cloud computing continues to evolve, it’s becoming apparent that rather than replacing local data center resources, cloud computing assets will be blended with existing resources to create higher levels of flexibility to meet the needs of the business.
