Solix Eases Application Retirement

Solix Technologies is partnering with information management software vendor SAND Technology to ease the task of storing retired enterprise data.

Through an OEM agreement, Solix will incorporate SAND/DNA Access nearline storage software in its newly launched Solix ExAPPS Application Retirement appliance. Solix ExAPPS, which is designed to simplify and reduce the cost of retiring legacy applications in the enterprise without sacrificing data preservation, will use SAND/DNA Access to store retired enterprise data in a format Solix describes as “highly compressed but easily accessible,” with minimal administration requirements.

SAND/DNA is a centralized data management solution designed to enable enterprise users to cost-effectively retain massive amounts of compressed data in a nearline repository for extended periods, in accordance with any applicable business rules and regulatory requirements. The solution is also geared toward allowing the rapid retrieval of data when needed on a continual basis.

SAND says its solution’s advanced information management technology compresses data to typically 10 percent of its original size, while giving users the ability to query any attributes of the data without decompressing it first. This next-generation capability seems as if it would be ideal for satisfying enterprise compliance requirements, as well as for leveraging valuable information stored in data warehouses as IT organizations continue to struggle with massive amounts of rapidly growing data in the enterprise.
