According to Arabella Hallawell, Sophos vice president of corporate strategy, SafeGuard 5.50 is designed to meet the needs of IT organizations that need a base level of encryption to meet a compliance standard, but don't have dedicated security specialists available to manage encryption implementations that are overly complex for their needs.
One of the primary reasons that encryption has not been widely deployed, said Hallawell, is that it's too costly and complex for most IT organizations. With this release, Sophos is trying to make encryption ubiquitous.
New features of SafeGuard Enterprise 5.50 include simplified server installation routines, a self-help service capability that allows end users to recover their own password, and new policy management tools that simplify administration. SafeGuard Easy 5.50 provides many of the same type of encryption capabilities for laptops and PCs.
Pricing starts at $50 per user in organizations with more than 1,000 users.
