Sybase Expands Text Analytics Reach

Sybase today extended the functionality of its IQ analytics server with support for full text search and the ability to federate queries across multiple servers and applications.

Version 15.2 of the Sybase IQ provides a foundation for doing text analytics that can be applied in financial services environments, e-discovery applications, Web site analytics and fraud detection, said Tom Traubitz, director of Sybase IQ product marketing.

As text analytics matures, more IT organizations are adding this capability to their business intelligence arsenal. And although Traubitz would not comment on the pending acquisition of Sybase by SAP, Traubitz did note that the Sybase analytics server complemented the existing SAP BI and ERP application portfolio.

Traubitz added that the vast majority of data held by companies today is in unstructured documents that can effectively be analyzed only using a text analytics engine such as Sybase IQ.

Other new features include enhanced Web-based reporting tools and support for real-time loading of data.
