Tandberg Rounds Out Video Conferencing Line

In what may prove to ultimately be the highest volume segment of the high-definition video conferencing market, Tandberg today rolled out of C40 codec platform aimed at small conference rooms.

While Tandberg, which is in the process of being acquired by Cisco, has offered both high end C90 and C60 codec platforms for large scale telepresence systems and an entry level C20 system, the C40 system fits neatly between those two extremes of the market, said Yong Kim, product marketing manager for the C40.

The C40 supports up to 1080p resolution, has a MultiSite capability for up to four connections, comes with multiple microphones and audio inputs, and a full set of APIs.

Kim said one of the major factors that distinguishes Tandberg in the videoconferencing space is that all of the company’s codec platforms provide a “transcoded MultiSite capability” that preserves video quality be being able to identify the bandwidth associated with specific connection to the codec platform and then dynamically adjusting video quality for slower connections with affecting all participants on the video conference.
