That’s the thinking behind a new ThreatMetrix Fraud Network that keeps tracks of all the systems accessing your Web site and corporate networks. While the system is designed to protect the privacy of users by not identifying specific user names, the system keeps track of identifiers such as IP addresses, infiltration of botnets and use of proxies using a packet signature analysis technology developed by ThreatMetrix to identify suspicious activity.
According to Alisdair Faulkner, chief product officer for ThreatMetrix, the basic idea on the network is to help IT organizations identify potential risks to their applications without having to record any personally identifiable information. That information is then fed into a policy engine that allows IT organizations to deny access to applications and services to certain machines in real time that don’t meet certain security thresholds.
Faulkner said that IT organizations can then review a built-in data warehouse and analytics applications to see what systems were denied access in order to determine the effectiveness of the existing corporate policies.
