Trend Micro Lays Out VDI Security Strategy

As IT organizations move to deploy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), many are finding that their existing approaches to desktop security no longer work.

Trend Micro is trying to get in front of the VDI migration trend with new release of Trend Micro OfficeScan 10.5 that includes security agent technology that can be deployed on top of guest operating systems running on top of any virtual machine.

According to Jorg Schneider-Fimon, product marketing manager for Trend Micro, security issues are hampering VDI adoption because IT organizations can’t see what is happening inside a guest operating system running on top of a virtual machine. Trend Micro has altered its security software by developing agent technology that can run in these new virtual environments.

Other new features of OfficeScan 10.5 include full support for Windows 7, an optional Web reputation filtering tool, and the ability to manage up to 20,000 end points via OfficeScan Management Server.

The latest release of OfficeScan 10.5 is designed to complement Trend Micro’s existing Core Protection for Virtual Machines offering that runs directly on top of a hypervisor to secure the virtual machine itself.
