Virtual Bridges Unifies VDI Management

Virtual Bridges today released version 5.0 of the company’s Verde virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) platform.

The new version adds an integrated management console that makes it easier to manage VDI deployments that are installed locally, in branch offices or in the cloud.

According to Virtual Bridges CEO Jim Curtin, the Verde architecture is specifically designed to allow IT organizations to migrate to a VDI environment without incurring additional IT infrastructure costs or loss of performance.

Towards that latter goal, Verde 5 also adds support for a multimedia protocol that allows any device connected to the Verde system to access a full range of audio and video capabilities.

Curtin said rival offerings from VMware and Citrix are trying to leverage server virtualization technologies that were designed for other types of application environments to create VDI solutions. As a result, they wind up introducing unnecessary IT infrastructure costs to compensate for fundamentally flawed VDI designs.

Verde, in contrast, was specifically built as a VDI solution from the ground up to avoid all the performance and manageability tradeoffs associated with server virtualization, Curtin said.
