As part of a general effort to boost confidence in desktop virtualization, VMware has partnered with Imprivata on security.
Imprivata’s OneSign identity management software manages the authentication process and related workflow management processes. As mobile computing evolves alongside desktop virtualization, identity management is going to be a significant challenge as users roam across the network using multiple devices.
According to Imprivata CTO David Ting, IT organizations are realizing that desktop virtualization is about more than replacing traditional desktops with a lower-cost approach to giving users access to applications on the server. Instead, companies are thinking of desktop virtualization as a productivity issue in that it give end users access to applications and data regardless of whether they are using a desktop PC, notebook, tablet PC or smartphone.
The challenge facing IT organizations is how to manage end-user access in the context of desktop virtualization, which Ting says accounts for why VMware is partnering with Imprivata.
