Websense Unifies Content Security

As part of a concerted effort to deliver multiple sets of integrated services on the same gateway appliance, Websense today rolled out a new Triton architecture that unifies Web, e-mail and data loss prevention (DLP) on the same platform.

According to Dave Meizlik, Websense director of product marketing for Web and data security, the Triton architecture represents the first time these security services have been unified not only under a common policy engine, but also across on-premise installations and a set of software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings managed by Websense.

That level of integration means that Websense is lowering the total cost of security management by integrating service versus merely “integrating invoices” by acquiring companies but failing to do the follow-up engineering to create a truly integrated security platform.

As the total cost of security has risen, interest in consolidating security appliances has become a higher priority in the enterprise.  According to Meizlik, each Websense gateway comes fully loaded with all Websense software, which customers can turn on as they feel appropriate over a period of time using a common management console.

Pricing for the Websense gateway appliances starts at just under $50 per seat for 1,000 users, depending on the number of security modules that are active.
