Xangati Bridges Virtual and Physical Servers

Xangati today rolled out a virtual appliance that deploys on top of a VMware ESX server to give IT organizations the ability to manage both virtual and physical servers.

Xangati for ESX runs on top of a VMware hypervisor to give IT managers visibility into performance issues associated with any of their virtual server deployments. That information can then be passed on to Xangati’s existing line of agentless management tools for physical servers. This tool, along with the new virtual appliance, presents systems information to It managers in a video format that IT managers can record and play over again.

Xangati is also rolling out a new Xangati Management Dashboard that can track up to 500 identities.

According to David Messina, vice president of marketing, the Xangati virtual appliance can be installed in under 30 minutes at a cost of $299. The Dashboard is priced at $4,999 for a standard edition and $9,999 for an enterprise edition. Compatible with VMware’s vCenter management platform, Messina says that pricing for the virtual appliance management platform can reach as little as $2 per virtual server.

Messina says the virtual appliance will serve to eliminate virtual server “blindspots” by giving IT managers visibility into how virtual servers are interacting with each other, the physical servers they reside on and the rest of the enterprise network.

That capability, he added, eliminates a lot of the recriminations in the IT department when issues arise over virtual machine performance because IT organizations will be able to easily determine whether the virtual machine is misconfigured or if the core issue lies with the physical server or the network.
