The VP780 and VP560 Ethernet appliance allow servers to access storage resources over a standard Ethernet connection to the Xsigo appliance. Those devices then provide access to any number of storage resources in minutes without requiring the server to have an adapter installed for any specific storage architecture.

Jon Toor, vice president of marketing for Xsigo, said Xsigo expects that this Ethernet-based approach to storage convergence will make it easier to scale storage resources across cloud computing environments, while also clearing up the cable clutter typically associated with high-density server environments.
In addition, Toor noted that as virtualization complexity increase, an Ethernet approach means that IT organization do not have to manually reconfigure storage systems every time a virtual machine moves to another physical server.
Prices for the new Xsigo appliances start at $35,000.
