At a time when most IT organizations are increasingly concerned about the performance of their Web applications, Zoompf is launching today at the O'Reilly Velocity Conference a commercial service that is intended to be a complement to its free scanning tool for Web performance optimization.
According to Zoompf CEO Billy Hoffman, most Web applications could be 20 to 24 percent faster if IT organizations focused on making their applications more efficient. In fact, Hoffman says we could reduce the total capacity of the Web today by 20 percent if we send less data each time an application is accessed. For example, many Web applications resend an image of a company logo every time a user accesses that application, instead of asking permission to cache that and other persistent images.

In fact, Zoompf used its own tool to analyze the websites that make up the Alexa Top 1000 list. The Zoompf analysis concludes that one byte in five on these sites is waste that could be eliminated used lossless optimizations.
Zoompf is providing a free scanning tool that allows IT organizations to discover the inefficiencies in their applications. The company also offers a commercial software-as-a-service offering, called Web Performance Optimizer, that customers can use to dynamically monitor their websites in addition to providing consulting services on how to make their applications faster.
Web application performance is becoming especially challenging as more Web applications become borderless, relying on components that are actually running on multiple websites. In those scenarios, determining the cause of an application performance issue can be especially challenging.
Pricing for the Zoompf Web Performance Optimizer starts at $99.
